Executive Summary
AetherMIP is an on-premise edge appliance that gives any compatible PLC-controlled machine a permanent, working intelligence. It connects to the machine through a hardware data diode, observes live data, and combines that data with the machine's own manuals, schematics, and procedures. Operators, technicians, and managers can ask questions in plain language and receive grounded, cited answers.
The system is designed around a single non-negotiable principle: useful intelligence must never come at the cost of control-system exposure. AetherMIP can observe the machine. It is physically incapable of writing to it.
The Problem on the Plant Floor

Manuals, procedures, and schematics exist, but they are rarely accessible at the moment of need. Introducing AetherMIP
AetherMIP is a dedicated Machine Intelligence Platform that sits beside the machine. It is not a cloud service, and it is not a generic chatbot layered onto plant systems. It performs three core functions:
- Observes the live PLC data stream through a hardware one-way diode.
- Ingests and understands the machine's own documentation.
- Makes that combined knowledge available to staff through a practical, role-aware interface.
The system is built for the people who actually run and maintain equipment — operators, technicians, electricians, and managers — and it is designed to remain useful over the long life of the machine.
How It Works
At the core of AetherMIP is a hardware data diode. Information flows in only one direction: from the PLC to AetherMIP. There is no electrical or protocol path that allows the system to write back to the controller.
Manuals, procedures, schematics, and related documentation are loaded into the system. When staff ask questions, AetherMIP retrieves and cites the relevant sections. At the same time, the system continuously observes live values such as pressures, temperatures, fault codes, cycle data, and safety-related tags. Answers are therefore grounded in both the machine's documentation and its current state.
Technicians and managers can also capture machine-specific facts and procedures. Once verified, this knowledge is ranked highly and becomes part of the system's permanent understanding of that equipment.
A continuous monitoring layer called Integrity Watch observes the live data stream for anomalies, communication loss, stale data, sequence issues, safety-tag problems, and structural changes that may indicate reprogramming. When such conditions appear, the system can generate alerts. It cannot, however, actuate or change machine behavior.
All core processing remains local. Machine data does not need to leave the facility for AetherMIP to function.

Security & Isolation
AetherMIP is built so that isolation is enforced by physics, not by policy alone. The hardware data diode makes write access to the PLC physically impossible. The software stack contains no write path to the controller. Integrity Watch can detect and alert on anomalies but cannot change machine state. Core intelligence functions do not require machine data to leave the plant.

AetherMIP creates value by reducing diagnosis time on complex faults, lowering dependency on a small number of highly experienced technicians, keeping knowledge with the machine rather than with individuals, and providing independent visibility into the integrity of the PLC data stream. It allows plants to introduce AI assistance without accepting cloud dependency or write-access risk.

Deployment Model
AetherMIP is initially focused on single-machine deployments (AetherMIP Core). It is designed for modern controllers that support structured data types, including Allen-Bradley ControlLogix and CompactLogix, Siemens S7-1200 and S7-1500, Schneider Modicon M580 and M340, Omron NJ/NX series, and other contemporary platforms with comparable capability.
A typical implementation involves loading the machine's documentation, mapping the relevant tags, and bringing the system online. Optional isolated notification capabilities can be added where desired. Future product tiers are intended to extend the same architecture across multiple machines and higher-security environments.
